Compact dipole nanoantenna coupler to plasmonic slot waveguide.
Optical nanoantennas can be used for coupling radiation to or from waveguides in analogy to micro- and radio-wave systems. In this letter we provide a systematic description of the design approaches for a coupler to a plasmonic slot waveguide in the telecom range around 1.55 µm with realistic excitation from a lensed optical fiber. We show that the best coupling efficiency of 26% can be achieve...
متن کاملLow loss coupler to interface silicon waveguide and hybrid plasmonic waveguide
A metallic coupler is proposed to interface a silicon on insulator (SOI) waveguide with a narrow hybrid plasmonic waveguide (200× 200 nm). The device operation is investigated and optimized to attain the best tradeoff between the mode confinement and the propagation loss. Calculations reveal that a high confinement and low loss of the energy is achieved from a silicon slab waveguide into the di...
متن کاملScattering of a plasmonic nanoantenna embedded in a silicon waveguide.
Plasmonic antennas integrated on silicon devices have large and yet unexplored potential for controlling and routing light signals. Here, we present theoretical calculations of a hybrid silicon-metallic system in which a single gold nanoantenna embedded in a single-mode silicon waveguide acts as a resonance-driven filter. As a consequence of scattering and interference, when the resonance condi...
متن کاملUltra-Compact Directional Coupler Using Hybrid Plasmonic Waveguide with Dual Metallic Layers
We analyze hybrid plasmonic waveguides with metallic layers on two sides. Confinement of closely stacked metal induces large difference of effective indices of vertical even and odd modes. This phenomenon can be utilized as ultracompact vertical directional coupler. Simulation shows directional coupling can be achieved in less than 1 μm.
متن کاملPlasmonic nanoantenna hydrophones
Ultrasound is a valuable biomedical imaging modality and diagnostic tool. Here we theoretically demonstrate that a single dipole plasmonic nanoantenna can be used as an optical hydrophone for MHz-range ultrasound. The nanoantenna is tuned to operate on a high-order plasmon mode, which provides an increased sensitivity to ultrasound in contrast to the usual approach of using the fundamental dipo...
