چکیده

Abstract Aims The aim of the study was to investigate N biogeochemistry four neighboring, high mountain plant communities and identify main factors which drive variability among them. We hypothesized that vegetation types differ in terms transformations, spatial differentiation dominant growth form can reflect an existence several N-environments along elevational gradient. Methods Plant soil characteristics were studied types: heathland, scrub, sward tall forb. Leaf nitrate reductase activity total measured species. Soil pH, C, N, inorganic dissolved organic concentrations measured. net mineralization rate examined. Results DistLM PERMANOVA analyses revealed driven primarily by elevation, N–NH 4 + , pH C. identified three distinct “N-poor alpine” located at highest altitudes, strongly N-limited dominated dwarf-shrub. "N-mixed subalpine" middle gradient covered scrub sward. It characterized moderate turnover rate. "N-rich occurred lowest locations subalpine forb community. exhibited dynamics transformations rich N. Conclusion Three identified: N-poor alpine, N-mixed subalpine, N-rich subalpine. Variability

Patterns of distribution and plant diversity in along elevational gradient (Case study: Moghan-Sabalan rangelands)

The study of plant communities is the best way to learn about vegetation structure and distribution as well as various interactions among the plants in an ecosystem. Elevation factor plays a vital role in plant distribution that ultimately leads to specific phytogeographic regions. This study evaluated the changes in species composition, density, frequency, canopy cover and palatability of spec...

Deterministic tropical tree community turnover: evidence from patterns of functional beta diversity along an elevational gradient.

Explaining the mechanisms that produce the enormous diversity within and between tropical tree communities is a pressing challenge for plant community ecologists. Mechanistic hypotheses range from niche-based deterministic to dispersal-based stochastic models. Strong tests of these hypotheses require detailed information regarding the functional strategies of species. A few tropical studies to ...

Community structure of ectomycorrhizal fungi across an alpine/subalpine ecotone

In order to assess changes in the community structure of ectomycorrhizal fungi across the tree line, data on distributions of fungi and their host plants, as well as on edaphic factors and stand age, were collected at two montane sites in the Front Range of the Canadian Rockies. Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) was used to explore relationships between fungal species composition and envi...

Distinct soil bacterial communities along a small-scale elevational gradient in alpine tundra

The elevational diversity pattern for microorganisms has received great attention recently but is still understudied, and phylogenetic relatedness is rarely studied for microbial elevational distributions. Using a bar-coded pyrosequencing technique, we examined the biodiversity patterns for soil bacterial communities of tundra ecosystem along 2000-2500 m elevations on Changbai Mountain in China...

Replicated hybrid zones of Xiphophorus swordtails along an elevational gradient.

Natural hybrid zones provide opportunities to study a range of evolutionary phenomena from speciation to the genetic basis of fitness-related traits. We show that widespread hybridization has occurred between two neo-tropical stream fishes with partial reproductive isolation. Phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial sequence data showed that the swordtail fish Xiphophorus birchmanni is monophylet...
