Community perceptions of co-managing Tajik National Park

Tajik National Park struggles with overgrazing, illegal hunting and ill-managed tourism. The designation of the park as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013 was meant to ease some these struggles, but improvements are thus far difficult identify. We conducted case study understand how local people perceive interact probe could be mitigated. Interviewees participants proposed solutions that revolved around concept co-management, which we consider way alleviate challenges faces today, especially terms nature conservation livelihoods for communities affected by park. conclude engaged community members willing help improve its management co-producing knowledge adapting social–ecological change if certain conditions, such improving trust making trade-offs, met.
