Combined toxic effects of nitrite and ammonia on life history traits of Daphnia pulex

چکیده

Nitrite and ammonia are two of the most common toxic nitrogenous pollutants in aquatic ecosystem, which can pose a serious threat to health organisms. Cladocerans, as an important part freshwater will inevitably be harmed by these pollutants. To evaluate combined effects on cladocerans, we simulated 15 combinations five nitrite concentrations (0, 0.5, 2, 4, 8 mg L −1 ) three 0.1, 1 study changes life history traits Daphnia pulex exposed for 21 days. Results showed that under stress ammonia, survival time D. was shortened, first batch eggs brood were delayed, body size tail spine length at maturation reduced, total offspring number broods decreased. There some synergistically negative between The presence reduced tolerance nitrite, vice versa . These findings provided new insights into great significance understanding population dynamics specific species cladocerans community condition compound

Toxic effects of combined stressors on Daphnia pulex: Interactions between diazinon, 4-nonylphenol, and wastewater effluent.

Contaminant exposure in aqueous systems typically involves complex chemical mixtures. Given the large number of compounds present in the environment, it is critical to identify hazardous chemical interactions rapidly. The present study utilized a prototype for a novel high-throughput assay to quantify behavioral changes over time to identify chemical interactions that affect toxicity. The indep...

The Covariance Structure of Life-history Characters in Daphnia Pulex.

The genetic covariance structure for life-history characters in two populations of cyclically parthenogenetic Daphnia pulex indicates considerable positive correlation among important fitness components, apparently at odds with the expectation if antagonistic pleiotropy is the dominant cause of the maintanence of genetic variation. Although there is no genetic correlation between offspring size...

Effects of physical interference on life history shifts in Daphnia pulex.

Daphnia pulex were reared in 50 ml flasks, each containing 1, 20 or 40 individuals, which were serially connected with a 20-mum mesh screens between, in order to examine the effect of physical interference due to crowding on shifts of life history traits throughout two consecutive generations. A flow-through system, designed to maintain a sufficient food supply and minimize the accumulation of ...

The Interactive Effects of Ammonia and Microcystin on Life-History Traits of the Cladoceran Daphnia magna: Synergistic or Antagonistic?

The occurrence of Microcystis blooms is a worldwide concern that has caused numerous adverse effects on water quality and lake ecology. Elevated ammonia and microcystin concentrations co-occur during the degradation of Microcystis blooms and are toxic to aquatic organisms; we studied the relative and combined effects of these on the life history of the model organism Daphnia magna. Ammonia and ...

The interactive effects of microcystin and nitrite on life-history parameters of the cladoceran Daphnia obtusa.

Elevated nitrite and microcystin concentrations co-occur during degradation of Microcystis blooms and are toxic to aquatic organisms. We studied the relative and combined effects of these on Daphnia obtusa life-history. Nitrite and microcystin-LR treatments were: 0, 1, 3 mg L(-1) and 0, 10, 100, 300 μg L(-1), respectively. Experiments were factorial with 12 treatment combinations. Incubations w...
