Combination of Biochar with N–Fertilizer Affects Properties of Soil and N2O emissions in Maize Crop

One of the challenges harnessing higher productivity levels and sustainability agriculture related to N fertilization is in expanding soil N2O emissions, which has become a serious issue recent years. Recent studies suggest that biochar may be solution this problem, but there still knowledge gap application rates its reapplication Central Europe; therefore, study, we investigated effect (initial 2014 2018, respectively, at 0, 10 20 t ha?1) combined with N-fertilizer (N0—0 kg ha?1; N1—108 ha?1 N2—162 during growing season maize 2019 (warm temperature normal precipitation) on changes properties emissions silty loam, Haplic Luvisol, temperate climate Slovakia. The results showed proved an excellent tool for increasing pH (in range 7–13%), organic carbon—Corg (2–212%), reducing soil’s NH4+ (41–69%); however, were more pronounced positive effects when was level (N2). same found case (reduction 33–83%). Biochar applied without fertilizer had suppressive emissions. did not have any yield 2019.
