Color Change and Physical-Mechanical Properties of Polystyrene-Impregnated Glulam from Three Tropical Fast-Growing Wood Species

چکیده

The aims of this work were to determine the color change and physical–mechanical properties polystyrene glulam from three tropical wood species. Wood laminas cut logs harvested a young plantation forest manii (Maesopsis eminii), mangium (Acacia mangium), rubber-wood (Hevea brasiliensis). impregnated with monomer styrene that was polymerized using potassium peroxy-disulfate as catalyst heat. Three-layer constructed laminas, isocyanate glue cold press. For comparison purposes, three-layer untreated solid samples prepared. results showed very small compared glulam. Polystyrene had highest density, while density did not differ wood. moisture content all products matched environment, fulfilled Japanese standard. Compared both types glulams, lower values for modulus rupture (MOR), elasticity (MOE), hardness, but higher shear strength. Meanwhile, MOR MOE, equal strength failure, hardness than All glulams little delamination in hot water test. Only JAS 234-2003 MOR, strength, delamination. To obtain adequate medium-density is recommended manufacturing.

Subterranean Termite Resistance of Polystyrene-Treated Wood from Three Tropical Wood Species

The objective of this work was to investigate the resistance of three Indonesian wood species to termite attack. Samples from sengon (Falcataria moluccana), mangium (Acacia mangium), and pine (Pinus merkusii) were treated with polystyrene at loading levels of 26.0%, 8.6%, and 7.7%, respectively. Treated and untreated samples were exposed to environmental conditions in the field for 3 months. Un...

Effect of Styrene Maleic Anhydride on Physical and Mechanical Properties of Recycled Polystyrene Wood Flour Composites

In this work, the influence of three types of styrene maleic anhydride (SMA) oligomers on the adhesion of polystyrene wood plastic composites (WPC) was investigated. The composites were processed on a twin-screw co-rotating extruder below 200°C using 20 wt% of wood flour. The styrene maleic anhydride with different content of maleic anhydride groups, 30%, 25% and 20% (w/w) and levels of 1, 2 an...

Physical and Mechanical Properties of Bio-Composites from Wood Particles and Liquefied Wood Resin

Compression molded composites were made from wood particles and a liquefied wood/phenol/formaldehyde co-condensed resin. Based on our previous research, a phenol to wood (P1W) ratio of 2/1 was chosen for this study. The two experimental variables selected were: 1) liquefaction temperature (1500 and 180°C) and 2) cooking method (atmospheric and sealed). Panels were tested in static bending for m...

Effect of Nanoclay-treated Uf Resin on the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Plywood Manufactured with Wood from Tropical Fast Growth Plantations

Physical and mechanical properties were evaluated on cross-laminated panels (plywood) fabricated with three plantation species (Cordia alliodora, Gmelina arborea and Vochysia ferruginea) from tropical climates in Costa Rica. The panels were glued with urea-formaldehyde resin modified with nanoclay at four concentrations (0,75; 1,00; 1,50 and 2,00 %) and unmodified resin. It was determined that ...
