Colicinogeny of Escherichia coli MRE 600.
Escherichia coli MRE 600 is a colicinogenic bacterium. Its colicinogenic activity may be ascribed mostly to colicin E1, although it produces a small amount of another, as yet unidentified, colicin.
متن کاملOligonucleotide probe for detection of the enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) adherence factor of localized adherent EPEC.
The enteropathogenic Escherichia coli adherence factor (EAF) probe detects isolates of enteropathogenic E. coli that exhibit localized adherence to HEp-2 cells. A 21-base oligonucleotide probe was constructed on the basis of a sequence from within the 1-kb EAF probe and was shown to have greater sensitivity and specificity than the EAF fragment probe in detecting localized adherent E. coli.
متن کاملRapid identification and differentiation of clinical isolates of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC), atypical EPEC, and Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli by a one-step multiplex PCR method.
Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC), atypical enteropathogenic E. coli, and Shiga toxin-producing E. coli differ in their virulence factor profiles, clinical manifestations, and prognosis, and they require different therapeutic measures. We developed and evaluated a robust multiplex PCR to identify these pathogroups based on sequences complementary to escV, bfpB, stx1, and stx2.
متن کاملThe Occurrence of Diarrhoeagenic Escherichia Coli among Children under Five Years of Age in Basrah, Southern Iraq
Results: Diarrhoeagenic E. coli was found in 148 (13.2 %) of examined specimens. Among these 77 (52 %) were enteropathogenic (EPEC), 69 (46.6 %) were enterotoxigenic (ETEC) and 2 (1.4 %) were enteroinvasive Escherichia coli (EIEC). EPEC serotypes 0119K69, 0114K90 and 0111K58 were the more frequent among twelve other serotypes. Diarrhoeagenic Escherichia coli showed high rates of resistance to a...
متن کاملLoss of colicinogeny in Escherichia coli strains infected by certain resistance factors.
The original observation that in wild-type colicinogenic Escherichia coli strains the introduction of some R factors abolish their colicin production was studied in certain col(+) strains bearing well-defined col factors. Two resistance (R) factors were used and introduced by conjugation in these strains, namely the 222 factor of Watanabe and a Salmonella typhimurium ST factor (coding for resis...
