Analysis of g2 for the cold collision frequency shift in the hydrogen condensate experiments
Abstract. We compute an approximate set of longitudinal quasiparticle modes for a hydrogen condensate as produced in the MIT experiments. An expansion in quasiparticles using a simple one-dimensional Bogoliubov picture shows however that at the high temperatures (≈ 44μK) and in the very shallow trap employed (ωz = 2π × 10.2Hz) the contribution to the density from the quasiparticles is about 20%...
متن کاملCold collision frequency shifts in a 87Rb atomic fountain.
We present measurements of cavity frequency pulling and collisional frequency shifts in a 87Rb fountain with a frequency resolution of 3x10(-16). Agreement with theory is found for the cavity pulling and the measured collisional shifts. The clock shift is found at least 50 times smaller than in 133Cs.
متن کاملUltra-cold atomic hydrogen beam
We investigated two methods of producing a continuous free beam of electron-spin polarized atomic hydrogen, using a 7.5 T solenoid magnetic field and a helium film-coated cell . The first method involves accumulating H 1 at high field in a 300 mK storage cell and flipping the electron spin by using microwaves to drive a hyperfine transition . The resulting HT atoms are accelerated and focused b...
متن کاملMeasurement and cancellation of the cold collision frequency shift in an 87Rb fountain clock
We measure a cold collision frequency shift in an 87Rb fountain clock that is fractionally 30 times smaller than that for Cs. The shift is -0.38(8) mHz for a density of 1.0(6)x10(9) cm(-3). We study the cavity pulling of the atomic transition and use it to cancel the cold collision shift. We also measure the partial frequency shifts of each clock state finding 2(lambda(10)-lambda(20))/(lambda(1...
متن کاملTwo-species cold atomic beam
We generate a bright atomic beam containing laser-cooled rubidium and cesium, and we use this beam to load a mixed-species ultrahigh-vacuum (UHV) magneto-optical trap. We have characterized our two-species atomic beam over a range of operating conditions, and we obtain similar atom fluxes for each species. Within the UHV trap, interspecies inelastic collisions are observed in the form of enhanc...
