Cold autoimmune hemolytic anemia secondary to atypical pneumonia

This chapter details a case study of 44-year-old Caucasian woman who was presented with 10-day history dry cough, exertional dyspnea, myalgia and fever. Symptoms persisted despite having completed course amoxicillin erythromycin. She an ex-smoker 15 pack years living in rented accommodation mold bird exposure, canary as pet. On the basis clinical hematological findings, cold antibody-induced hemolytic anemia secondary to Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection suspected. confirmed by demonstration both IgG IgM antibodies, indicative recent infection. PCR for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) negative, were laboratory tests multiple other organisms. The combination autoimmune atypical lymphocytes suggests either EBV or mycoplasma As this patient, consideration well features can indicate correct diagnosis.
