Cognitive therapy for PTSD following birth trauma and baby loss: clinical considerations

Abstract Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after traumatic birth can have a debilitating effect on parents already adapting to significant life changes during the post-partum period. Cognitive therapy for PTSD (CT-PTSD) is highly effective psychological which recommended in NICE guidelines (National Institute Health and Care Excellence, 2018) as first-line intervention PTSD. In this paper, we provide guidance how deliver CT-PTSD birth-related trauma baby loss address common cognitive themes. Key learning aims (1) To recognise understand development of following childbirth loss. (2) Ehlers Clark’s (2000) model be applied (3) able apply patients with perinatal PTSD, including through miscarriage or birth. (4) discover personal meanings associated steps update them.
