Cognitive impairment and treatment outcomes amongst people attending an alcohol intervention service for those aged 50+

Purpose No studies have evaluated the relationship between cognitive impairment and alcohol treatment outcomes amongst older drinkers. This study aims to explore extent of adults seeking examine impairment, retention use following treatment. Design/methodology/approach The used data from Drink Wise Age Well programme; an intervention service for (aged 50+). Montreal Cognitive Assessment was screen impairment; assessed using disorders identification test. Findings In total, 531 participants completed assessment at entry. Over half sample were male (57%), with a mean age 60 years (Standard deviation: 7.09). Almost (48.4%) had entry treatment: 51.6% normal function, 41.4% mild 5.8% moderate 1.1% severe impairment. not associated increased drop-out predictive Alcohol significant improvement in functioning. Originality/value suggests there may be amount unidentified attending routine screening drug services help care planning setting goals; absence opportunities missed.
