چکیده
Background Psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) are attacks that often look like epileptic (ES). Unlike ES, PNES not triggered by underlying neurological factors. relatively rare in the general population; however, their prevalence people with learning disabilities is much higher—up to 10%. Individuals and have psychiatric comorbidities, such as anxiety disorders, depression posttraumatic stress disorder. There currently no treatment guidelines for or without disabilities. However, talking therapies, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), recommended. This study explores effectiveness of CBT a woman (Susan) Methods We used single-case experimental design (SCED) investigate intervention. Specifically, withdrawal (also known ABA) was applied. The patient's average frequency, well idiosyncratic mood measure standardised outcome measures (Glasgow Anxiety Scale People an Intellectual Disability Mini-Maslow Assessment Needs Scale-Learning Disabilities), were assess treatment. Findings Results show Susan's monthly frequency reduced from phase A1 (assessment phase) B (treatment phase), this persisted follow-up (phase A2). reduction statistically significant. intervention associated improvements mood, quality life. Reduction clinically Conclusions SCED demonstrates might be functioning disabilities; further research, especially around confounding variables needed.

Rationale: An estimate of 3 million people present with the diagnosis of epilepsy in Brazil. Psychogenic Nonepileptic Seizures (PNES) are likely to occur in up to 2-33/100.000 people. Paradoxically, very few papers address this significant condition in the Brazilian literature. We describe a Brazilian PNES population and provide a review of the literature. Methods: we reviewed the clinical hist...
متن کاملPsychogenic (nonepileptic) seizures.
Psychogenic (nonepileptic) seizures are among the most common and serious of all psychogenic neurological disorders. They account for approximately 20% of all intractable seizure disorders referred to comprehensive epilepsy centers and present with a reported annual incidence of approximately 4% that of true epilepsy. These events are serious and disabling. Indeed, compared with patients with t...

Pyschogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) are common and potentially harmful – both physically and emotionally – events. They are often under or misdiagnosed. Not only neurologists managing epilepsy, but also generalists and ER physicians should be aware of its existence, preventing unnecessary tests, as well as, iatrogenic interventions. The assistance provided to these patients is often inadeq...
متن کاملPsychogenic Nonepileptic Seizures after Head Injury: A Case Report
Psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNESs) are diagnosed when disruptive changes in behaviour, thinking, or emotion resemble epileptic seizures (ESs), but no paroxysmal discharges are seen on electroencephalogram (EEG) and do not originate from another medical illness. The gold standard for PNES diagnosis is video electroencephalogram (Video-EEG). PNESs are defined by modern psychiatry as conver...
