چکیده

Abstract To add value to wastes from the coffee crop, this research physically and chemically characterized pulp waste an organic farm crop located in Santa Bárbara (Antioquia-Colombia), specifically analyzing whether or not material has promise for heavy metal removal wastewater, such as landfill leachate. The was thermally modified improve its physical chemical condition sorption capacities. Sorption before after modification thus point of zero charge, surface area, functional groups, elemental morphological analysis, lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose content. tests Cu Pb capacity were also carried out batches determining kinetics using leachates Neal Road Landfill, Butte County, Northern California, USA. Results showed that a high potential liquid-effluent treatment because rate achieved around 70% 90% copper lead, especially when there are simultaneously solution (leachate). Also, it can be concluded these experimental conditions, biosorption by will allow legally established permissible limits satisfactorily fulfilled.

Agricultural waste material as potential adsorbent for sequestering heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions - a review.

Heavy metal remediation of aqueous streams is of special concern due to recalcitrant and persistency of heavy metals in environment. Conventional treatment technologies for the removal of these toxic heavy metals are not economical and further generate huge quantity of toxic chemical sludge. Biosorption is emerging as a potential alternative to the existing conventional technologies for the rem...

Natural Zeolites Application as Sustainable Adsorbent for Heavy Metals Removal from Drinking Water

Background: There are great resources of natural zeolite in Iran. Zeolite, an inorganic ion-exchanger, may be used as a suitable technical-economical solution for water treatment in many regions of Iran. In this study, the characterization of natural zeolite natrolite and the feasibility of removing hardness, cations, and anions were investigated. Methods: First, zeolite composition and type...

Combined anaerobic-aerobic treatment of landfill leachates

As a first step of treatment of landfill leachates (total COD – 1,430-3,810 mg/l, total nitrogen 90162 mg/l), a performance of laboratory UASB reactors has been investigated under mesophilic (30 C), sub-mesophilic (20 C) and psychrophilic (10 C) conditions. Under hydraulic retention times (HRT) of around 7 h, when the average organic loading rates (OLR) were around 5 g COD/l/day, the total COD ...

Tertiary treatment of landfill leachates by adsorption.

The leachates produced at the municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill of Asturias (Spain) were submitted to a biological treatment consisting of a pressurized nitrification-denitrification process followed by ultrafiltration. The effluent from this treatment plant has a high chemical oxygen demand : biochemical oxygen demand (COD : BOD( 5)) ratio (about 25 : 1). The COD values of the effluent are ...

Heavy metal binding capacity (HMBC) of municipal solid waste landfill leachates.

This research describes the use of a toxicity assay for the identification of metal toxicity, bioavailability and heavy metal binding capacity (HMBC) of municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill leachates. MetPLATE, an assay specific for heavy metal toxicity, was used to determine the HMBC of MSW leachates collected from 14 sites in Florida, with a wide range of chemical and physical characteristics...
