چکیده
Abstract This study pertains to analysing the dynamical behaviour of a floating body undergoing parametric resonances. A simple vertical cylinder, representing classical spar-buoy, is considered, limiting its motion heave and pitch degrees freedom. Its geometry mass distribution are chosen such that 2:1 ratio pitch/roll natural frequency makes spar-buoy prone resonance. The system then studied by shooting method, combined with pseudo-arclength continuation, harmonic balance procedure. Results show an extensive bistable region exists, where stable resonance coexists regular response. analysis also unveiled existence quasiperiodic motions existing in correspondence both qualitatively validated using model based on explicit nonlinear Froude–Krylov force calculation.

Intermittent control of coexisting attractors.
This paper proposes a new control method applicable for a class of non-autonomous dynamical systems that naturally exhibit coexisting attractors. The central idea is based on knowledge of a system's basins of attraction, with control actions being applied intermittently in the time domain when the actual trajectory satisfies a proximity constraint with regards to the desired trajectory. This in...
متن کاملFinding coexisting attractors using amplitude control
Nonlinear dynamical systems often have multiple stable states and thus can harbor coexisting and hidden attractors that may pose an inconvenience or even hazard in practical applications. A mplitude control provides one method to detect these coexisting attractors, and it explains the unpredictable and irreproducible behavior that sometimes occurs in carefully engineered systems. In this paper,...
متن کاملSupernarrow spectral peaks and high-frequency stochastic resonance in systems with coexisting periodic attractors.
The kinetics of a periodically driven nonlinear oscillator, bistable in a nearly resonant field, has been investigated theoretically and through analogue experiments. An activation dependence of the probabilities of fluctuational transitions between the coexisting attractors has been observed, and the activation energies of the transitions have been calculated and measured for a wide range of p...
متن کاملCoexisting Hidden Attractors in a 4-D Simplified Lorenz System
A new simple four-dimensional equilibrium-free autonomous ODE system is described. The system has seven terms, two quadratic nonlinearities, and only two parameters. Its Jacobian matrix everywhere has rank less than 4. It is hyperchaotic in some regions of parameter space, while in other regions it has an attracting torus that coexists with either a symmetric pair of strange attractors or with ...
متن کاملTargeting spatiotemporal patterns in extended systems with multiple coexisting attractors.
We set up adaptive control algorithms which can be used to achieve control to desired attractors in spatially extended systems. Traditional adaptive control methods often fail in such systems due to the presence of multiple coexisting attractors that lead to a high probability of the system getting trapped in an undesired attractor despite the application of control. We use quenching techniques...
