Coeliac disease presenting with a leuco-erythroblastic anaemia.

A 49-year-old Irishman presented as an emergency with watery diarrhoea and a leuco-erythroblastic anaemia. Investigations showed that he had coeliac disease but no evidence of bone marrow infiltration. His leuco-erythroblastic picture disappeared on treatment with iron and folic acid.

Coeliac disease with autoimmune haemolytic anaemia.

Two patients are described who have developed autoimmune haemolytic anaemia in association with their coeliac disease. Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia may represent an extension of immunological disorders linked with coeliac disease, centred on the histocompatibility antigen B8.

Coeliac disease and pernicious anaemia.

Despite the often reported autoimmune basis for coeliac disease and pernicious anaemia, there have been only occasional reports of the two conditions occurring together. We wish to report of such an association occurring in a 61 year old patient and comment on the diagnostic and prognostic implications.
