Code Choices Among Multilingual Families: a Pilot Study

Living in a multi-ethnic and multilingual country, Indonesian citizens have the privilege of being exposed to different languages using them various degrees proficiency. As it becomes typical for an individual mix and/or switch everyday interaction, there is certainly room more in-depth investigation, especially determining pattern code choices among families. Using descriptive qualitative approach, we observed how occur family two young adult speakers Universitas Negeri Malang. The data this current study were collected from interview videos as part larger project (Family Language Policy) carried out 2021 with focus on language selection processes work their results showed that choice patterns practiced these families; example, first used Javanese primary communication members, while second chose use Indonesian. However, interestingly both families communicate when speaking very members or children. findings paper are important particularly predicting shift phenomena contexts.
