Coastal Erosion and Flooding Threaten Low-Lying Coastal Tracts at Lipari (Aeolian Islands, Italy)

چکیده

Lipari is the largest and most populated island in Aeolian Archipelago, a UNESCO site, highly frequented touristic destination. As many other insular settings, low-lying coastal stretches E NE sectors of are locally exposed to erosion flooding, enhanced by subsidence effects leading local sea level rise. Most these appear critical, being narrow increasingly threatened risk permanent inundation beach disappearance. In this study, setting placed wider context decadal evolution main beaches, analysed through multidisciplinary approach, which includes remote sensing techniques (aero-photogrammetry, unmanned aerial vehicle survey, satellite data), offshore geophysical surveys (high-resolution multibeam bathymetry), field observations. The results show variable interaction space time between natural anthropogenic factors long- mid-term studied areas. Considering that part economy at depends on tourism, proper future management required view reduction light climate changes related impacts.

Channel Shallowing as Mitigation of Coastal Flooding

Here, we demonstrate that reductions in the depth of inlets or estuary channels can be used to reduce or prevent coastal flooding. A validated hydrodynamic model of Jamaica Bay, New York City (NYC), is used to test nature-based adaptation measures in ameliorating flooding for NYC’s two largest historical coastal flood events. In addition to control runs with modern bathymetry, three altered lan...

Long term coastal erosion and shoreline positions of Sri Lanka

Coastal zone of Sri Lanka is a key to sustainable development of the country. The erosion of country’s coastal zone has been identified as a long standing problem. Therefore, coastal sediment dynamics around the country has to be identified to develop an appropriate coastal zone management plan. Remote sensing and GIS techniques can be used for quantitative and qualitative analyses of coastal p...
