Coarse graining and large-$N$ behavior of the $d$-dimensional $N$-clock model

چکیده
We study the asymptotic behavior of $N$-clock model, a nearest neighbors ferromagnetic spin model on $d$-dimensional cubic $\varepsilon$-lattice in which field is constrained to take values discretization $\mathcal{S}_N$ unit circle~$\mathbb{S}^{1}$ consisting $N$ equispaced points. Our $\Gamma$-convergence analysis consists two steps: we first fix and let lattice spacing $\varepsilon \to 0$, obtaining an interface energy continuum defined piecewise constant fields with $\mathcal{S}_N$; at second stage, $N +\infty$. The final result this two-step limit process anisotropic total variation $\mathbb{S}^1$-valued vector bounded variation.

Coarse graining and control theory model reduction
We explain a method, inspired by control theory model reduction and interpolation theory, that rigorously establishes the types of coarse graining that are appropriate for systems with quadratic, generalized Hamiltonians. For such systems, general conditions are given that establish when local coarse grainings should be valid. Interestingly, our analysis provides a reduction method that is vali...
متن کامل20 08 Large N transition in the 2 D SU ( N ) xSU ( N ) nonlinear sigma model
We consider the characteristic polynomial associated with the smoothed two point function in two dimensional large N principal chiral model. We numerically show that it undergoes a transition at a critical distance of the order of the correlation length. The transition is in the same universality class as two dimensional large N QCD.

Multiscale simulations For nearly all systems of interest to us, the most transferrable and fundamental description of matter is one that invokes quantum mechanics. At the highest level of accuracy, this amounts to solving Schrodinger’s equation for all of the subatomic particles in a system. Computationally, many approximations need to be made in order to use ab initio methods, and even these ...
متن کاملLarge-N scaling behavior of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model.
We introduce a novel semiclassical approach to the Lipkin model. In this way the well-known phase transition arising at the critical value of the coupling is intuitively understood. New results--showing for strong couplings the existence of a threshold energy which separates deformed from undeformed states as well as the divergence of the density of states at the threshold energy--are explained...
