Coarse and Fine Particulate Organic Matter Transport by a Fourth-Order Mountain Stream to Lake Bourget (France)

چکیده

Transport of coarse particulate organic matter (CPOM) derived from forest litterfall has been hardly studied in rivers, unlike fine (FPOM) or dissolved (DOM). Yet, many rivers are dammed run into lakes, and there is growing evidence that CPOM accumulation river delta participates substantially ecological processes such as greenhouse gas emissions lakes reservoirs. We investigated the transport FPOM by Leysse River (discharge 0.2 to 106 m3 s−1) Lake Bourget (France) relation aerial litter deposition, network length, discharge. Over a 19-month study period, volume-weighted mean concentrations were 1.3 7.7 g m−3, respectively. Most occurred during major flood events, power relationships between maximum discharge (POM) these events. The annual export (190 t AFDM) was 85% autumn on permanent sections riverbed (224 AFDM), which suggests process compared breakdown. Export 1.25 yr−1 km−2 forested catchment area. Metabarcoding-based fungal diversity on coarse and fine particulate organic matter in a first-order stream in Nova Scotia, Canada

Most streams receive substantial inputs of allochthonous organic material in the form of leaves and twigs (CPOM , coarse particulate organic matter). Mechanical and biological processing converts this into fine particulate organic matter (FPOM). Other sources of particles include flocculated dissolved matter and soil particles. Fungi are known to play a role in the CPOM conversion process, but ...

California Wildfires of 2008: Coarse and Fine Particulate Matter Toxicity

BACKGROUND During the last week of June 2008, central and northern California experienced thousands of forest and brush fires, giving rise to a week of severe fire-related particulate air pollution throughout the region. California experienced PM(10-2.5) (particulate matter with mass median aerodynamic diameter > 2.5 mum to < 10 mum; coarse ) and PM(2.5) (particulate matter with mass median aer...
