CO2-Enhanced Oil Recovery Mechanism in Canadian Bakken Shale

چکیده
The recovery factor in unconventional reservoirs is typically 5–10%, with extensive hydraulic fracturing and infill drilling to maintain the production rate. Concurrently, rush towards decarbonization opening up new possibilities for CO2 utilization, enhanced oil (EOR) being one example. CO2-EOR presents an opportunity both financial gain through improved factors, as well reducing carbon footprint of produced oil. In this work, we examine potential 4 organic-rich shale samples from Canadian Bakken Formation. A number characterization tests alongside extraction experiments were performed insight into controlling factors these ultra-tight formations. results show can penetrate tight rock matrix recover a substantial amount hydrocarbon. Concentration gradient driven diffusion dominant form recovery.

Water Use and Management in the Bakken Shale Oil Play in North Dakota.
Oil and natural gas development in the Bakken shale play of North Dakota has grown substantially since 2008. This study provides a comprehensive overview and analysis of water quantity and management impacts from this development by (1) estimating water demand for hydraulic fracturing in the Bakken from 2008 to 2012; (2) compiling volume estimates for maintenance water, or brine dilution water;...
متن کاملAn Experimental Study of Surfactant Alternating CO2 Injection for Enhanced Oil Recovery of Carbonated Reservoir
Core flooding experiments were conducted with the objective of evaluating near miscible surfactant alternating CO2 injection and the effect of surfactant concentrations on gas-oil and water displacements in porous media. The core samples were provided from a low permeability mixed wet oil reservoir at 156 °F and 1900 psia. In addition, very few studies of surfactant adsorption on car...
متن کاملRisk assessment for future CO2 Sequestration Projects Based CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery in the U.S
This paper is the first of a series that attempts to assess the possible health and safety risks associated with large scale CO2 sequestration in deep brine reservoirs. The approach is based on analysis of available data on the operational track record from CO2 transportation and injection associated with enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR) in the US. This paper is particularly concerned with ident...
متن کاملIncreasing CO2 Storage in Oil Recovery
Carbon dioxide (CO2) injection has been used as a commercial process for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) since the 1970’s. Because the cost of oil recovered is closely linked to the purchase cost of the CO2 injected, considerable reservoir engineering design effort has gone into reducing the total amount of CO2 required to recover each barrel of oil. If, on the other hand, the objective of the CO2 ...
