CO2-converting enzymes for sustainable biotechnology: from mechanisms to application

To realize a circular, carbon-neutral economy, it will become important to utilize the greenhouse gas CO2 as sustainable carbon source. Carboxylases, enzymes that capture and convert gaseous are prime candidates pave way towards realizing this vision of CO2-based bio-economy. In last couple years, interest in using engineering carboxylases has been steadily growing. Here, we discuss how basic research on mechanism binding activation by opened develop new-to-nature CO2-fixing found application development synthetic CO2-fixation pathways their further realization vitro vivo.
