Co-producing knowledge to address disaster risks in informal settlements in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: pathways toward urban equality?

In Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, small-scale and everyday disasters are a manifestation of the multidimensional inequalities faced by residents informal settlements. The co-production knowledge about disaster other risks, bringing together with local NGOs government representatives, is potential entry point for addressing inequalities. This paper reports on such process in two settlements, carried out Centre Community Initiatives Tanzania Urban Poor Federation at Mtaa level, it looks how community assessments risks travel into governance policymaking. involvement officials this has led to incremental changes governance, example better linking budgets risk reduction (DRR) priorities representation civil society municipal management committees. also points challenges achieving integration DRR development activities level.
