The Redshift Cutoff and the Quasar Epoch
We have obtained complete redshift information for a sample of 442 radio-loud quasars with flux densities S 11 ≥ 0.25 Jy. These come from a completely-identified sample of 878 flat-spectrum radio sources, so there is no optical magnitude limit. With these quasars, therefore, we can map out the entire quasar epoch, unhindered by optical selection effects and any intervening dust. The rapid decli...
متن کاملClustering at High Redshift
Together with the CMB, the three sources of information that astronomers have at high redshift as probes of the formation and evolution of the LSS are QSOs, galaxies and absorbers observed in the spectrum of distant background objects. In this contribution I try to give a hint of historical perspective, following how the technological advances have driven the emphasis from one class to another,...
متن کاملIs there a redshift cutoff for submillimetre galaxies?
We present new optical and infrared photometry for a statistically complete sample of seven 1.1 mm selected sources with accurate coordinates. We determine photometric redshifts for four of the seven sources of 4.64, 4.54, 1.49 and 0.18. Of the other three sources two are undetected at optical wavelengths down to the limits of very deep Subaru and Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope images (∼27 mag ...
متن کاملLuminosity and redshift dependent quasar clustering
We present detailed clustering measurements for a flux limited sample of ∼ 14, 000 quasars extracted from the 2dF QSO Redshift Survey (2QZ) in the redshift range 0.8 < z < 2.1. After splitting the sample into three redshift bins and each of them into six luminosity intervals, we estimate the quasar projected auto and cross-correlation functions at a given redshift for separations 3 ∼ < r/hMpc ∼...
متن کاملUHECR propagation in the Galaxy: clustering versus isotropy
Recently the AGASA Collaboration presented data suggesting a significant clustering of ultra-high energy cosmic rays coming from the outer Galaxy region. In this paper we calculate expected cosmic ray arrival distributions for several simple, limiting source location scenarios and investigate the possibility of clustering and correlation effects. The role of the Galactic magnetic field is discu...
