Minimal invasive plate osteosynthesis of close fractures of distal tibia.

BACKGROUND The limited soft tissue, subcutaneous location and poor vascularity render the tibial fractures very challenging. Treatment of distal tibial fractures using minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) technique may minimise damage to soft tissues and the vascular integrity of bony fragments, leaving comminuted fragments out of the mechanical construct, preserving soft tissues with...

Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis for Distal Tibia Fractures.

Surgical treatment of distal tibia fractures can present as a difficult task. Intramedullary nailing (IMN), external fixation, and open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) have displayed various complications ranging from a high rate of knee morbidity with IMN to wound complications and infection with ORIF. Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) has been used to decrease development of t...

Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Plate Osteosynthesis Does Not Increase Complication Rates in Extra-Articular Distal Tibial Fractures

BACKGROUND Selection of a treatment method in cases of unstable, nonarticular distal tibial fractures is still a matter of discussion. Intramedullary nailing, which is a "gold standard" for tibial shaft fractures, does not always work for this specific transition area between diaphysis and metaphysis. Instead, new minimally invasive techniques with special implants are popular. AIMS To determ...

Union Following Biological and Rigid Fixations of Distal Tibia Extra-articular Fractures

Background: Distal tibia fractures are among the most common bony injuries, with a significant rate of nonunion anddelayed union. There are multiple methods for the management of distal tibia fractures. Among the plating methods, there are bridge plating and compression plating techniques. There is still a lack of evidence about whether one methodhas a higher rate of union than...

Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis (MIPO) for Proximal and Distal Fractures of The Tibia: A Biological Approach

Introduction: The treatment of fractures of proximal and distal tibia is challenging, because of the limited soft tissue envelope and poor vascularity. The best treatment remains controversial and it depends on the fracture morphology, displacement and comminution. Treatment options vary from closed reduction and cast to open reduction and internal fixation with plate. Open reduction and intern...
