Climbing up the ladder: male reproductive behaviour changes with age in a long-lived fish

چکیده
Abstract High reproductive performance is the key attribute of male fitness, especially due to high skew among males most animal species. Males long-lived iteroparous species have opportunities improve upon their previous attempts with increasing age. We collected individual-specific behaviour and age data on a cyprinid fish, asp ( Leuciscus aspius ), from 2015 2019. tested whether changed over time using unique dataset where individual was recorded yearly passive telemetry. Individual fish tracked one five seasons at least year after tagging. Fish were scored by measures quality (first arrival time, number visits spent in grounds, encountered proportion all adult fish). In general, improved first three metrics age, suggesting shift towards behaviours likely enhance success as individuals aged. A larger size tagging predictive earlier spawning ground subsequent years. Our study therefore demonstrates importance factor when considering potential Significance statement fitness. reproducing multiple times life this 5-year study, we large telemetry systems during reproduction. investigated age-related behavioural changes demonstrated improvement timing length stay repercussions for male’s output. emphasize old experienced population, which are often targeted selectively removed human-managed waters.

Analytics : climbing up the ladder of behavior control
Learning Analytics can be conceptualized as an action control process. Information is collected at the behavioral level and then re-mapped to serve diagnosis at higher levels of control. We describe the rationale for moving up the ladder of behavior control with examples from eyetracking and clickstream analysis.
متن کاملAge, Sex, and Telomere Dynamics in a Long-Lived Seabird with Male-Biased Parental Care
The examination of telomere dynamics is a recent technique in ecology for assessing physiological state and age-related traits from individuals of unknown age. Telomeres shorten with age in most species and are expected to reflect physiological state, reproductive investment, and chronological age. Loss of telomere length is used as an indicator of biological aging, as this detrimental deterior...

15 صفحه اولReproductive endocrinology of wild, long-lived raptors.
The last decades have witnessed a surge of studies analyzing the role of sex hormones on the behavior and ecology of wild bird populations, allowing a more integrated view of the evolution of avian physiology and life histories. Despite a marked progress, field studies show a considerable bias towards research on specific phylogenetic groups, neglecting a significant fraction of the class Aves....
متن کاملChanges in adrenal capacity contribute to a decline in the stress response with age in a long-lived seabird.
In response to stressors, most vertebrates elevate secretion of glucocorticoids (CORT) to produce a 'stress response' that enhances survival, but simultaneously inhibits reproduction. Circumstances in which the value of current reproduction is high relative to the value of future reproduction and survival, often lead to suppression of the stress response thus ensuring that critical resources ar...
