Climate and dengue transmission in Grenada for the period 2010–2020: Should we be concerned?

The impacts of climate change on vector-borne and zoonotic diseases (VBZD) are well founded in some countries but remain poorly understood Caribbean countries. VBZD impose significant burdens individuals healthcare systems, heightening the need for studies response measures to address epidemics persistent high prevalence these any region. This study analyses pattern dengue case distribution Grenada between 2010–2020 investigates relationship rainfall cases. total number cases wet seasons (June December) dry (January May) were 1741 458, respectively, indicating higher disease periods. data also shows that was not consistently during typical rainy season months. observed patterns 2013, 2018 2020 show, while driest years, than other years. Two factors may explain drier years (1) frequent sporadic heavy (2) poor water storage practices season. With each 30 mm unit decrease annual rainfall, incidence rate ratio reduced by a factor .108 (89.2%). work Vector Control Unit is shown be effective managing Grenada. highlights year-round surveillance interventions control mosquito population transmission.
