Classical Solutions to Phase Transitionproblems
We prove that classical C 1-solutions to phase transition problems, which include the two-phase Stefan problem, are smooth. The problem is reduced to a xed domain using von Mises variables. The estimates are obtained by frozen coeecients and new L p estimates for linear parabolic equations with dynamic boundary condition. Crucial ingredients are the observation that a certain function is a Four...
متن کاملIntermediate phase for a classical continuum model.
A number of years ago, Widom and Rowlinson proposed a continuum model of interacting spherical particles and provided compelling evidence that this model has a phase transition. A rigorous proof of the existence of a two-phase regime in this model emerged shortly thereafter and recently, this phase transition has been understood in geometric terms—as a percolation phenomenon. Nevertheless, prog...
متن کاملGlobal Classical Solutions of the “one and One-half” Dimensional
We study the “one and one-half” dimensional Vlasov–Maxwell–Fokker–Planck system and obtain the first results concerning well-posedness of solutions. Specifically, we prove the global-intime existence and uniqueness in the large of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem and a gain in regularity of the distribution function in its momentum argument.
متن کاملExistence of Weak Solutions for a Non-classical Sharp Interface Model for a Two-phase Flow of Viscous, Incompressible Fluids
Abstract. We introduce a new sharp interface model for the flow of two immiscible, viscous, incompressible fluids. In contrast to classical models for two-phase flows we prescribe an evolution law for the interfaces that takes diffusional effects into account. This leads to a coupled system of Navier–Stokes and Mullins–Sekerka type parts that coincides with the asymptotic limit of a diffuse int...
متن کاملGlobal Classical Solutions for the “one and One-half” Dimensional Relativistic Vlasov-maxwell-fokker-planck System
In a recent paper Calogero and Alcántara [Kinet. Relat. Models, 4 (2011), pp. 401-426] derived a Lorentz-invariant Fokker-Planck equation, which corresponds to the evolution of a particle distribution associated with relativistic Brownian Motion. We study the “one and one-half” dimensional version of this problem with nonlinear electromagnetic interactions the relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell-Fokker...
