Citrus Varieties with Different Tolerance Grades to Tristeza Virus Show Dissimilar Volatile Terpene Profiles

چکیده

Plants produce considerable amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with several biological functions, including protection against biotic agents such as viruses and their vectors. In citrus species, these metabolites can be related different susceptibility/tolerance toward the Tristeza virus (CTV), one main constraints for industry. The objective this study was to compare VOCs pattern from leaves a CTV-susceptible variety Citrus aurantium three CTV-tolerant varieties: volkameriana, Carrizo citrange, Forner-Alcaide no. 5. emitted were analyzed via headspace SPME method, while plant sequestered in by heptane extraction followed GC-MS. results indicated that majority varieties tolerant susceptible CTV are constituted mainly terpenes (VTs) exhibit strong qualitative/quantitative differences among profiles four species. detail, VOC emission patterns between C. volkameriana both them comparison 5 citrange exhibited more similarities, last two characterized higher presence sesquiterpenes. data obtained analysis leaf tissues monoterpenes limonene, α-pinene, p-cymene, known components extracts showing deterrent properties insect As evaluation is fast noninvasive measure phenotypic dynamics, allowing association phenotypes accordance disease resistance and/or stress tolerance, possible implications terms tolerance grade its vectors discussed.

Citrus tristeza virus-host interactions

Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) is a phloem-limited virus whose natural host range is restricted to citrus and related species. Although the virus has killed millions of trees, almost destroying whole industries, and continually limits production in many citrus growing areas, most isolates are mild or symptomless in most of their host range. There is little understanding of how the virus causes sev...

The Complex Genetics of Citrus tristeza virus

The 2000 x 11 nm long bipolar flexuous filamentous particles of Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) (genus Closterovirus, family Closteroviridae) (Figure 1) contain a single-stranded positive-sense RNA genome of 19.3 kb, which is encapsidated in two different capsid proteins that coat the opposite ends of the virions [1, 2]. CTV is the largest identified RNA virus infecting plants and the second larges...

Three genes of Citrus tristeza virus are dispensable for infection and movement throughout some varieties of citrus trees.

Citrus tristeza virus (CTV), a member of the Closteroviridae, possesses a 19.3-kb positive-stranded RNA genome that is organized into twelve open reading frames (ORFs). The CTV genome contains two sets of conserved genes, which are characteristic of this virus group, the replication gene block (ORF 1a and 1b) and the quintuple gene block (p6, HSP70 h, p61, CPm, and CP). With the exception of th...

Transcriptional response of Citrus aurantifolia to infection by Citrus tristeza virus.

Changes in gene expression of Mexican lime plants in response to infection with a severe (T305) or a mild (T385) isolate of Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) were analyzed using a cDNA microarray containing 12,672 probes to 6875 different citrus genes. Statistically significant (P<0.01) expression changes of 334 genes were detected in response to infection with isolate T305, whereas infection with T3...
