Citizen science project on Alpine ibex, Capra ibex, in the Orobie Alps

The Alpine ibex is one of the finest examples how human’s attitude towards nature changing by becoming aware biodiversity conservation. On 30th anniversary first reintroduction in Orobie Alps, a three year long Citizen Science Project started June 2017 (‘Stambecco e Lombardia’). Nowadays, complementary tool that can be used data collection citizen science; its use among scientific community increasing and it considered new opportunity for future science. A three-year project (from to 2019) took place Alps (Bergamo, Italy), with 2,530 photographs (Capra ibex). total 735 scientists part gathering collecting pictures (225 2017, 248 2018 262 2019). Photographs, complete technical descriptions, were posted on project’s Facebook page Instagram each was georeferenced ArcGis platform web mapping application. images helped comparing expansion zones Lombard colonies ones identified preliminary study. also turned out useful monitoring population health.
