چکیده

Abstract The positive phase of the subtropical Indian Ocean dipole (SIOD) is one climatic modes in southern that influences austral summer inter-annual rainfall variability parts Africa. This paper examines rain-bearing circulation types (CTs) Africa south equator are related to SIOD and dynamics through which specific regions can be influenced by this relationship. Four CTs were obtained. Among four CTs, CT featured (i) enhanced cyclonic activity southwest Ocean; (ii) widespread anomaly (iii) low-level convergence moisture fluxes from tropical South Atlantic Ocean, over south-central landmass Africa, was found mode. relationship also implies expected increase amplitude frequency occurrence aforementioned CT. linkage between homogeneous anomalies showed it principal where already known significantly influence its variability. Hence, large-scale patterns atmospheric associated with CT, spatial distribution intensity preferred convergence.

Multidecadal Indian Ocean Variability Linked to the Pacific and Implications for Preconditioning Indian Ocean Dipole Events

The Indian Ocean has sustained robust surface warming in recent decades, but the role of multidecadal variability remains unclear. Using ocean model hindcasts, characteristics of low-frequency Indian Ocean temperature variations are explored. Simulated upper-ocean temperature changes across the IndianOcean in the hindcast are consistent with those recorded in observational products and ocean re...

A Mathematical Model for Indian Ocean Circulation in Spherical Coordinate

In recent years, the Indian Ocean (IO) has been discovered to have a much larger impact on climate variability than previously thought. This paper reviews processes in which the IO is, or appears to be, actively involved. We begin the mathematical model with a pattern for summer monsoon winds. Three dimensional temperature and velocity fields are calculated analytically for the ocean forced by ...

Coral reef death during the 1997 Indian Ocean Dipole linked to Indonesian wildfires.

Geochemical anomalies and growth discontinuities in Porites corals from western Sumatra, Indonesia, record unanticipated reef mortality during anomalous Indian Ocean Dipole upwelling and a giant red tide in 1997. Sea surface temperature reconstructions show that although some past upwelling events have been stronger, there were no analogous episodes of coral mortality during the past 7000 years...

Warming Trend of the Indian Ocean SST and Indian Ocean Dipole from 1880 to 2004*

The state of the Indian Ocean dipole representing the SST anomaly difference between the western and southeastern regions of the ocean is investigated using historical SST reconstructions from 1880 to 2004. First, the western and eastern poles of the SST-based dipole mode index are analyzed separately. Both the western and eastern poles display warming trends over this period, particularly afte...
