چکیده

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the circadian feeding rhythm green-belly stink bug (Dichelops melacanthus) on corn (Zea mays), and correlate it with meteorological parameters. experiments were conducted in fields first (summer) second (fall) crop seasons, municipality Chapecó, state Santa Catarina, Brazil. Plants V3 V5 stages covered cages infested adults D. melacanthus. After 24 hours acclimation, number insects plant stem counted every three (at 6:00, 9:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, 21:00, 0:00 h). At night, a red led flashlight used visualize without interfering their behavior. Meteorological parameters monitored correlated plants. In differed among evaluation times, peak afternoon, evening, at night. Few found 6:00 9:00 h. There positive correlation between air temperature both seasons. milder regions, preferred time melacanthus is during night hours, which should be taken into account for precise management insect.

Toxicity of Chromobacterium subtsugae to southern green stink bug (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) and corn rootworm (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae).

Diabrotica spp. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) beetles and southern green stink bugs, Nezara viridula (L.) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae), are pests on corn, Zea mays L., and soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merr., as well as on cucurbits. Control of these insects has depended on chemicals. An alternative to chemical control is the use of biologicals. Use of bacteria, fungi, viruses, pheromones, and metabol...

Stink Bug Feeding Induces Fluorescence in Developing Cotton Bolls

BACKGROUND Stink bugs (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) comprise a critically important insect pest complex affecting 12 major crops worldwide including cotton. In the US, stink bug damage to developing cotton bolls causes boll abscission, lint staining, reduced fiber quality, and reduced yields with estimated losses ranging from 10 to 60 million dollars annually. Unfortunately, scouting for stink bug ...

Parasitism and predation of stink bug (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) eggs in Georgia corn fields.

Nezara viridula L. and Euschistus servus (Say) are the predominant species of phytophagous stink bugs on corn, Zea mays L., in Georgia. Oebalus pugnax pugnax (F.) occurs in relatively low numbers, and the predatory stink bug Podisus maculiventris (Say) is commonly found. Limited information is available on natural biological control of these four stink bug species in Georgia corn fields; there...

Insecticidal Management and Movement of the Brown Stink Bug, Euschistus servus, in Corn

In eastern North Carolina, some brown stink bugs, Euschistus servus (Say) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) are suspected to pass the F(1) generation in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) (Poales: Poaceae) before moving into corn (Zea mays L.) (Poales: Poaceae). These pests can injure corn ears as they develop. To test their effectiveness as a management tactic, pyrethroids were aerially applied to field cor...

The effect of noise on sexual behaviour of the southern green stink bug Nezara viridula

Stink bugs of the pentatomid family communicate using substrate-borne vibrational signals transmitted through host plants. Specific signal length and repetition rate are critical for mate recognition and are susceptible to masking by simultaneous conspecific and congeneric signals. We tested whether overlapping conspecific signals interrupt Nezara viridula (L.) sexual behaviour with playback of...
