Pattern-reversal electroretinograms in unilateral glaucoma.

Pattern-reversal and flash electroretinograms (ERG) and oscillatory potentials (OP) were recorded from 11 patients with unilateral glaucoma. All glaucomatous eyes had reduced amplitudes both compared to the opposite eye in the same patient and to reference values. In 10 of the 11 cases this reduction was below the level of normal variation. The difference in pattern-reversal ERG amplitude means...

Pattern and Ganzfeld electroretinograms in macular disease.

The pattern electroretinogram has been found to be abnormal in all except three cases of maculopathy. This is in contrast to other electrophysiological tests, which are frequently unaffected. The degree of reduction is related to the loss of visual acuity. The response to focal flashes is less affected than the response to pattern.

Increased growth hormone response to apomorphine in Parkinson disease compared with multiple system atrophy.

BACKGROUND Parkinson disease (PD) is often difficult to distinguish from parkinsonian syndromes of other causes in early stages of the disease. In search of a suitable endocrinologic challenge test, we investigated dopaminergic sensitivity in patients with de novo parkinsonian syndromes. OBJECTIVE We measured the growth hormone (GH) response to a subthreshold dose of the dopamine 1-dopamine 2...

Variants associated with Gaucher disease in multiple system atrophy

OBJECTIVE Glucocerebrosidase gene (GBA) variants that cause Gaucher disease are associated with Parkinson disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). To investigate the role of GBA variants in multiple system atrophy (MSA), we analyzed GBA variants in a large case-control series. METHODS We sequenced coding regions and flanking splice sites of GBA in 969 MSA patients (574 Japanese, 223 ...

Pain in multiple system atrophy and progressive supranuclear palsy compared to Parkinson's disease

BACKGROUND Pain is a common nonmotor symptom in Parkinson's disease (PD). The pathophysiology of pain in PD is not well understood. Pain characteristics have rarely been studied in atypical parkinsonian disorders such as Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). AIM OF THE STUDY We aimed to evaluate pain intensity, location, and associated symptoms in atypical pa...
