Effects of lactic acid bacteria isolated from fermented mustard on lowering cholesterol.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the ability of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains isolated from fermented mustard to lower the cholesterol in vitro. METHODS The ability of 50 LAB strains isolated from fermented mustard on lowering cholesterol in vitro was determined by modified o-phtshalaldehyde method. The LAB isolates were analyzed for their resistance to acid and bile salt. Strains with lowering cho...

OBJECTIVES To analyze the anti-inflammatory effects of Lactobacillus brevis extracts on periodontitis patients and to investigate the involved mechanisms in vitro on activated macrophages. METHODS Eight healthy subjects and 21 patients with chronic periodontitis were enrolled to analyze the effect of L. brevis-containing lozenges on periodontitis-associated symptoms and signs. Before and afte...
متن کاملGenome Sequence of Lactobacillus brevis Strain D6, Isolated from Smoked Fresh Cheese
The autochthonousLactobacillus brevisstrain D6, isolated from smoked fresh cheese, carries a 45-kDa S-layer protein. Strain D6 has shown adhesion to extracellular matrix proteins and to Caco-2 intestinal epithelial cells, as well as immunomodulatory potential and beneficial milk technological properties. Hence, it could be used as a potential probiotic starter culture for cheese production.
متن کاملPyruvate metabolism in Lactobacillus brevis.
The pyruvate metabolism of LactobaciUus plantarum and Latobacillus arabino8su, which according to Bergey (1948) are identical organisms, has been studied by Rowatt (1951) and Nossal (1952). Both these homofermentative lactobacilli were shown to form 3-hydroxybutan-2-one (acetoin) as the main product of their pyruvate metabolism. No one appears to have studied the metabolism of pyruvate by any o...
متن کامل1,3-Propanediol:NAD+ oxidoreductases of Lactobacillus brevis and Lactobacillus buchneri.
In the cofermentation of glycerol with a sugar by Lactobacillus brevis and Lactobacillus buchneri, a 1,3-propanediol:NAD+ oxidoreductase provides an additional method of NADH disposal. The enzyme has been purified from both L. brevis B22 and L. buchneri B190 and found to have properties very similar to those reported for the enzyme from Klebsiella pneumoniae. The enzymes required Mn2+ and are p...
