Cholesterol-dependent hemolytic activity of Passiflora quadrangularis leaves.
Plants used in traditional medicine are rich sources of hemolysins and cytolysins, which are potential bactericidal and anticancer drugs. The present study demonstrates for the first time the presence of a hemolysin in the leaves of Passiflora quadrangularis L. This hemolysin is heat stable, resistant to trypsin treatment, has the capacity to froth, and acts very rapidly. The hemolysin activity...
متن کاملAntioxidant Activity of Passiflora edulis Sims Leaves
Ethanol extract of Passiflora edulis Sims was analyzed for its antioxidant (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl radical reducing power methods) and phytochemical analysis. The extract was found effective against the antioxidant test models exhibiting an IC(50) value of 875+/-87.83 mug/ml and showed strong potential antioxidant activity in both assays.
متن کاملAntipathogenic Efficacy and Hemolytic Activity of Calotropis procera Leaves
The work delt with the growth-inhibitory impact of methanolic extract of Calotropis procera leaves on five pathogenic bacteria, analysed by agar diffusion and broth dilution methods. By agar diffusion method, the extract was found very effective against B. subtilis (MIC= 2.5 mg), while moderate activity was noted against P. mirabilis (MIC= 5 mg). Zone of inhibition was not found for P. aerugino...
متن کاملCitotoxyc and apoptotic activity of extracts from leaves and juice of passiflora edulis
Liver cancer is the fifth most frequent neoplasm in men and the ninth in women, with 782,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed in 2012, is the second cause of death associated with cancer in the world, with 746,000 deaths in 2012.1 Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of liver cancer. It is produced by the transformation of hepatocytes and is common in patients with cirrhosis, con...
متن کاملAssessment of Total Phenolic, Antioxidant, and Antibacterial Activities of Passiflora Species
This study focused on total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant and antibacterial activities of the leaves and stems of Passiflora quadrangularis, P. maliformis, and P. edulis extracted using three solvents: petroleum ether, acetone, and methanol. The maximum extraction yields of antioxidant components from the leaves and stems were isolated using methanol extracts of P. edulis (24.28%) and ...
