Dual frequency VLBI polarimetric observations of 3C138
We report VLBI polarimetric observations of the steep spectrum compact radio source 3C138. The relatively small range of Faraday rotation measured in the outer jet and hotspot region suggests that the jet is not being confined by a dense plasma. These results are inconsistent with the “frustrated jet” scenario and are consistent with the “young source” scenario. Evidence is given for extensive ...
متن کاملA Test of Water Vapor Radiometer-Based Troposphere Calibration Using VLBI Observations on a 21-Kilometer Baseline
Simultaneous very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) and water vapor radiometer (WVR) measurements on a 21-km baseline showed that calibration by WVRs removed a significant fraction of the effect of tropospheric delay fluctuations for these experiments. From comparison of the residual delay variations within scans and between scans, the total tropospheric contribution to the delay residuals fo...
متن کاملMeasurements of Precipitable Water Vapor by GPS, Radiosondes, and a Microwave Water Vapor Radiometer
Results from the Westford WAter Vapor Experiment (WWAVE) will be discussed. This experiment was designed to measure the temporal and spatial variability of the total precipitable water vapor (PWV) over an area of roughly 25 km radius around the Haystack Observatory in Westford, MA. The main experiment was conducted from August 15 to August 30, 1995, and a variety of techniques were used to meas...
متن کاملDevelopment of a High Stability Water Vapor Radiometer
Preliminary design details and laboratory test results of a microwave radiometer operating near the 22.2 GHz water vapor resonance line are presented, Radiometric stability to 10mK for periods of several hours is the design goal. Early indications are that these goals are being met in the prototype system. The use of noise diodes as receiver gain calibrators is examined, and test results showin...
متن کاملColumnar water vapor retrievals from multifilter rotating shadowband radiometer data
[1] The multifilter rotating shadowband radiometer (MFRSR) measures direct and diffuse irradiances in the visible and near-infrared spectral range. In addition to characteristics of atmospheric aerosols, MFRSR data also allow retrieval of precipitable water vapor (PWV) column amounts, which are determined from the direct normal irradiances in the 940-nm spectral channel. The HITRAN 2004 spectra...
