Chimneys’ influence on fire risk of solid wood structures in residential buildings in rural Balkan settlements

According to official fire statistics, chimney fires account for almost 20% of all that occur in family residential buildings every year the Balkan region. The high temperature from chimneys may have an influence on spreading wooden girders. objective study was gather and analyse data timber structure incidents occurring lowland rural settlements Serbia (2010-2014) a mountain settlement Montenegro (2007-2013) order determine extent which existing can be used risk assessment. Additionally, chimney-timber floor heat transfer mechanism investigated, namely, time dependent distribution cross-section few types mostly structures were analysed. This research illustrates how lack maintenance social vulnerability (aged population with low incomes, living many cases alone old houses areas limited access distance heating systems or piped gas) could areas. It is shown significant differences exist respect causation over type structural elements ? due different cross-sections structure, both settlements.
