چکیده

The role of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) management has changed over the last twenty years. There been a trend towards an overall decline TACE procedures, but with more aggressive approach, repeating multiple sessions case tumor response. survival treated patients was prolonged because better patient selection and advancements techniques aimed at preserving liver function. At present, is approved by International Guidelines also outside BCLC intermediate stage after evaluation multidisciplinary board (MDTB), permitting customized treatment for every patient. An alternative therapeutic strategy represented hepatic Degradable Starch Microspheres (DSM-TACE), which based on chemotherapeutic effect rather than ischemic damage to tumor, requiring cycles treatment. higher safety profile DSM-TACE broadened indications waiting transplantation (with bridging or downstaging intention), high risk failure ineligible systemic therapies. This review summarises scientific publications supporting use illustrates its depending disease from Interventional Radiologist’s perspective.

Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) with degradable starch microspheres (DSM) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC): multi-center results on safety and efficacy

BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. The majority of HCCs are diagnosed in a stage that is not eligible for curative resection. For intermediate stage HCC, transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the recommended treatment. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of DSM (degradable starch microspheres) as embolic agent in transarter...

Transarterial chemoembolization with degradable starch microspheres (DSM-TACE): an alternative option for advanced HCC patients? Preliminary results.

OBJECTIVE To assess safety, feasibility and effectiveness of transarterial chemoembolization with degradable-starch-microspheres (DSM-TACE) in the treatment of patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) dismissing or ineligible for multikinase-inhibitor chemotherapy administration (Sorafenib) due to unbearable side effects or clinical contraindications. PATIENTS AND METHODS Six con...

Safety and efficacy of transarterial chemoembolization with degradable starch microspheres (DSM-TACE) in the treatment of secondary liver malignancies

Purpose To evaluate the safety and efficacy of degradable starch microspheres (DSM) as embolic agents in transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in the treatment of secondary liver metastases. Methods This was a national, multicenter observational study. Primary endpoints were safety and treatment response according to Modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (mRECIST) criteria. ...

Temporary blood flow stasis with degradable starch microspheres (DSM) for liver metastases in a rat model.

A reliable liver metastasis model using intraportal injections of sarcoma cells was established in syngeneic hooded Lister rats to study the blood supply of the tumours and to evaluate the role of degradable starch microspheres (DSM) in conjunction with selective hepatic arterial and portal venous chemotherapy. The tumour/normal liver (T/L) ratio after intra-arterial and intraportal injection o...
