Chemically recyclable thermoplastics from reversible-deactivation polymerization of cyclic acetals

چکیده
Tough recyclable polyacetals Cyclic acetals such as dioxolane are appealing building blocks for plastics but have proven to be difficult polymerize controllably. Abel et al . show that optimal pairing of a bromomethyl ether and indium or zinc Lewis acid produces polydioxolane with high tensile strength may advantageous packaging applications. Heating this plastic in strong easily breaks it back down its acetal monomer, which can then recovered by distillation from mixed waste streams yield. —JSY

Synthesis of Glycopolymer Architectures by Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization
This review summarizes the state of the art in the synthesis of well-defined glycopolymers by Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization (RDRP) from its inception in 1998 until August 2012. Glycopolymers architectures have been successfully synthesized with four major RDRP techniques: Nitroxide-mediated radical polymerization (NMP), cyanoxyl-mediated radical polymerization (CMRP), atom tran...
متن کاملThreshold Particle Diameters in Miniemulsion Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization
Various types of controlled/living radical polymerizations, or using the IUPAC recommended term, reversible-deactivation radical polymerization (RDRP), conducted inside nano-sized reaction loci are considered in a unified manner, based on the polymerization rate expression, Rp = kp[M]K[Interm]/[Trap]. Unique miniemulsion polymerization kinetics of RDRP are elucidated on the basis of the followi...
متن کاملEffect of Small Reaction Locus in Free-Radical Polymerization: Conventional and Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization "2279
Abstract: When the size of a polymerization locus is smaller than a few hundred nanometers, such as in miniemulsion polymerization, each locus may contain no more than one key-component molecule, and the concentration may become much larger than the corresponding bulk polymerization, leading to a significantly different rate of polymerization. By focusing attention on the component having the l...
متن کاملCompletely recyclable biopolymers with linear and cyclic topologies via ring-opening polymerization of γ-butyrolactone.
Ring-opening polymerization (ROP) is a powerful synthetic methodology for the chemical synthesis of technologically important biodegradable aliphatic polyesters from cyclic esters or lactones. However, the bioderived five-membered γ-butyrolactone (γ-BL) is commonly referred as 'non-polymerizable' because of its low strain energy. The chemical synthesis of poly(γ-butyrolactone) (PγBL) through th...
متن کاملRapid Synthesis of Well-Defined Polyacrylamide by Aqueous Cu(0)- Mediated Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization
Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of acrylamide (AM) has proved challenging, typically exhibiting low conversions and broad molecular weight distributions (MWDs). Herein, we report the synthesis of well-defined polyacrylamide (both homo and block copolymers) via aqueous copper(0)mediated reversible-deactivation radical polymerization (Cu(0)RDRP), exploiting the in situ disproportionat...
