چکیده

BACKGROUND Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) is a synthetic biocompatible polymer that extensively used by the medical and pharmaceutical industries due to its FDA approval for in vivo applications. Its highly hydrophilic nature makes it an ideal wound dressing material, especially form of nanofibrous mats. RESULTS In this work, electrospun PVA-based scaffolds suitable management were created. Chemical cross-linking with citric acid glyoxal was employed enhance supports’ stability aqueous environments, cellulose nanocrystals added during electrospinning process improve mechanical properties final constructs. Varying concentrations agents (0.12-1 wt% 0.06-0.5 glyoxal), allowed control rate extend dissolution, thereby tuning materials specific types (e.g. acute vs chronic). There inverse relationship between amount cross-linkers mats’ weight loss (ranging from 2% 18%) after 6 days immersion water. All supports sustained growth human fibroblasts (>85% viability), whereas there no biofilm formation when contact S. aureus 24 hours. The presence did not affect cytocompatibility but improved non-woven fibres. CONCLUSION Tailor-made mats showing antimicrobial behaviour successfully created through altering concentration chemical cross-linkers. This flexible approach offers potential matching type offering more targeted solution management. © 2021 Society Industry (SCI).

Antimicrobial wound dressing nanofiber mats from multicomponent (chitosan/silver-NPs/polyvinyl alcohol) systems.

Novel hybrid nanomaterials have been developed for antimicrobial applications. Here we introduce a green route to produce antibacterial nanofiber mats loaded with silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs, 25 nm diameter) enveloped in chitosan after reduction with glucose. The nanofiber mats were obtained from colloidal dispersions of chitosan-based Ag-NPs blended with polyvinyl alcohol. Nanofibers (150 nm ...

Wound-dressing materials with antibacterial activity from electrospun polyurethane-dextran nanofiber mats containing ciprofloxacin HCl.

Dextran is a versatile biomacromolecule for preparing electrospun nanofibrous membranes by blending with either water-soluble bioactive agents or hydrophobic biodegradable polymers for biomedical applications. In this study, an antibacterial electrospun scaffold was prepared by electrospinning of a solution composed of dextran, polyurethane (PU) and ciprofloxacin HCl (CipHCl) drug. The obtained...

Genipin cross-linked electrospun chitosan-based nanofibrous mat as tissue engineering scaffold

Objective(s): To improve water stability of electrospun chitosan/ Polyethylene oxide (PEO) nanofibers, genipin, a biocompatible and nontoxic agent, was used to crosslink chitosan based nanofibers.  Materials and Methods: Different amounts of genipin were added to the chitosan/PEO solutions, chitosan/PEO weight ratio 90/10 in 80 % acetic acid, and the solutions were then electrospun to form nano...
