Chemical sedimentation as a driver of habitat diversity in dryland wetlands

چکیده

Freshwater wetlands located in dryland environments are characterised by high evapotranspiration rates and frequent periods of desiccation, which strongly influence the water chemistry solute budgets these systems. The transpiration groundwater, especially trees, is an important mechanism through can lose water. This process lead to groundwater salinization precipitation substantial quantities minerals within soil, accumulation have profound consequences for wetland structure function. paper aims bring together current knowledge on processes that result chemical sedimentation assist maintaining freshwater conditions many seasonal wetlands. Examples from central southern Africa, Australia South America presented illustrate geomorphically diverse settings under occur, importance resilience longevity We show localised development saline subsurface soils play a key role creating habitat diversity Wetland vegetation localises deleterious constituents, thereby preventing widespread playa-lake formation, thus ensuring bulk surface remains fresh. Although such remain widely understudied, we suggest could be common phenomenon implications future management ecosystems.

Ramsar international wetlands of Alagol, Almagol and Ajigol in eastern parts of the Caspian Sea: a floristic and habitat survey

Ramsar international wetlands of Alagol, Almagol and Ajigol with a surface of 3027 ha are located in the vast Turkmen-Sahra plains (Golestan prov.) in east of Caspian Sea and in the vicinity of the Iran-Turkmenistan political border. Flora, vegetation and habitat diversity of the wetlands were surveyed during growing seasons of 2014 and 2015. A total of 159 plant taxa belonging to 123 genera an...

Energy as a driver of diversity in open-ended evolution

We investigate the consequences of introducing an energy model into open ended evolutionary simulations. We propose a metamodel for simulations that incorporate an energy model and apply that model by extending Turk’s Sticky Feet model. We show that introducing an energy model produces simulations with measurably increased diversity of the simulated population.

Effects of Vegetation on Hydraulic Roughness and Sedimentation in Wetlands

INTRODUCTION: The calculation of Manning n values has been of interest since the Manning equation was presented in the late 1800s (Henderson, 1966). While estimation of n vahm for normal channels has been fairly well standardized, the estimation of n values in areas of dense vegetation continues to be subject to large variations depending on the experience of the engineer and the perceived dens...
