چکیده
Abstract Marine microalgae are a promising sustainable source of lipids, omega-3 fatty acids, and carbohydrates. Selected species belonging to the Bacillariophyceae, Haptophyceae, Eustigmatophyceae, Prasinophyceae were characterised for cellular content carbon nitrogen, production yields total carbohydrates, ?-glucans. Carbon nitrogen showed hyperbolic decrease with increasing cell numbers Chaetoceros calcitrans , C. muelleri Skeletonema costatum Tetraselmis sp., Nannochloropsis oculata . Cultures Pavlova lutheri Tisochrysis lutea an increase in per cell, but content. The lipid N. T. increased decreasing relative growth rate; however, highest productivity lipids was found grown at 40% maximum specific rate. eicosapentaenoic acid docosahexaenoic ?-glucan fraction carbohydrates very low Out investigated, had yield ?-glucans, obtained when cultivated

High Protein- and High Lipid-Producing Microalgae from Northern Australia as Potential Feedstock for Animal Feed and Biodiesel
Microalgal biomass can be used for biodiesel, feed, and food production. Collection and identification of local microalgal strains in the Northern Territory, Australia was conducted to identify strains with high protein and lipid contents as potential feedstock for animal feed and biodiesel production, respectively. A total of 36 strains were isolated from 13 samples collected from a variety of...

Different extracts from five medicinal plants were investigated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities by agar diffusion and microdilution methods. The extracts selectively exhibited antibacterial effect and the most active was the aqueous-acetone extract of Euphorbia balsalmifera against the Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia and Pseudomonas aeruginosa wit...
متن کاملPotential of lipid metabolism in marine diatoms for biofuel production
BACKGROUND Diatoms are an ecologically relevant group of microalgae that are not commonly considered for bio-oil production even if they are responsible for massive blooms at sea. Seventeen diatom species were screened for their capacity to produce biomass and lipids, in relation to their growth rate. Triglyceride levels were also assessed as a preferential source of biofuels. RESULTS Using s...
متن کاملModelling lipid production in microalgae
Microalgae offer potentially great opportunities for producing biofuel. In order to optimize triglycerid production, this article proposes a dynamical model of microalgal lipid production. In this model, intracellular carbon is divided between a functional pool and two storage pools (sugars and neutral lipids). The various intracellular carbon flows between these pools lead to a complex dynamic...
متن کاملEffects of salinity on growth and fatty acid composition of green microalgae Dunaliella bardawil as a candidate source for biofuel production
Microalgae as a source of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, pigments, pharmaceutical and food metabolites, has received more focus by biological researchers at last decades. The amount and composition of fatty acids produced by microalgae depended on biomass production and environmental factors such as changes in salinity, light and nutrient availability. In this study, the green microalga...
