چکیده

Abstract Hymenopteran females are mostly highly selective, choosing their mating partner according to male quality signals, and may also signal fertility through chemical advertisement. Male insects, in turn, often display a complex set of courtship behaviors allure mate. In this study we explored the mechanisms triggering oligolectic bee Heriades truncorum . species, males perform wing fanning followed by sideways rocking motion before copulation. We tested role cues recognition exposing dead washed from cuticular extracts (i.e., sex pheromones) that were posteriorly coated, or not, with an extract unmated females. Additionally, experimentally reduced length test whether was responsible for motions. found interact more coated females, presence these pheromones. important motions, which essential behavior successful possibly element used evaluate quality. Our shows both mechanical signals female bees, respectively, elements system H.

Functional coupling of acoustic and chemical 48 signals in the courtship behaviour of the male

53 During courtship, the male Drosophila melanogaster sends signals to the female through two major sensory 54 channels: chemical and acoustic. These signals are involved in the stimulation of the female to accept 55 copulation. In order to determine the respective importance in the courtship of these signals, their pro56 duction was controlled using genetical and surgical techniques. Males dep...

Nestmate recognition in the stingless bee Frieseomelitta varia (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponini): sources of chemical signals

0003-3472 2010 The Association for the Study of A doi:10.1016/j.anbehav.2010.11.020 Social insects use cuticular lipids for nestmate recognition. These lipids are chiefly hydrocarbons that can be endogenously produced or acquired from the environment. Although these compounds are already described as coming from different sources for different groups of social insects, nothing is known about th...

Mechanical signals trigger Myosin II redistribution and mesoderm invagination in Drosophila embryos.

During Drosophila gastrulation, two waves of constriction occur in the apical ventral cells, leading to mesoderm invagination. The first constriction wave is a stochastic process mediated by the constriction of 40% of randomly positioned mesodermal cells and is controlled by the transcription factor Snail. The second constriction wave immediately follows and involves the other 60% of the mesode...

Chemical stimuli induce courtship dominance in Drosophila

(STS) shows heightened activation when we see another person gazing into an unexpected direction. This activation is reduced in ASD and suggests a disconnection between the perceptual processing of gaze and the social interpretation of its meaning. The STS region, which is implicated in the perception of biological motion and the attribution of mental states, has been found to be hypo-functiona...
