Charles F. Mackenzie, Popery, Guns, and Colonial Conflict

Charles F. Mackenzie was an Anglican archdeacon in the 19th century newly formed Diocese of Natal. He consecrated a missionary bishop for Central Africa Cape Town 1861, which significant development Church at time. struggled to read social landscape, becoming embroiled colonial conflict. Consequently, congregants, colleagues, and historians have characterized him markedly different ways, rendering disputed legacy. This paper brings into conversation with another figure who is not without his own controversy: Martyn Percy. Applying Percy's implicit theological approach provides important lens view complexities, ecclesial conflicts missional contexts sought navigate.
