Characterization of Thin Chromium Coatings Produced by PVD Sputtering for Optical Applications

PVD (physical vapor deposition) and CVD (chemical have gained greater significance in the last two decades with mandatory shift from electrodeposition processes to clean deposition due environmental, public safety, health concerns. Due frequent use of coatings several industrial sectors, importance studying chromium coating through PVD–sputtering can be realized, investing a real alternative electroplated hexavalent chromium, usually denominated by 6, regularly applied optical products automotive industry. At an early stage, experimental tests were carried out understand which parameters are most suitable for obtaining properties. To study broad way, thickness roughness analysis obtained using SEM AFM, adhesion analyzes scratch-test transmittance spectrophotometry out. It was possible determine that decreased increase number layers, increased linearly, resistance climatic remained positive throughout study. Thus, this allows understanding thin multilayered Cr successfully polymeric substrates regarding applications
