Characterization and concentration of airborne fungi in public transport vehicles in Istanbul

The study investigated the concentration and distribution features of culturable airborne fungi (CAF) in indoor air for four public transport vehicles (bus, metro, metrobus, ferry) Istanbul. collection samples was performed from each vehicle both directions once a month March 2017 to February 2018. highest lowest CAF concentrations measured during were determined be 40–660 CFU/m3 bus, 20–400 40–360 20–260 ferry. It that no fungal colonies observed on ferry inbound route March. findings demonstrated bus higher compared other vehicles, there significant correlation between levels number passengers (p < 0.05; r = 0.68) RH% 0.43). In line with density order fourteen species determined, Penicillium spp., Paecilomyces Aspergillus spp. identified. results this also showed high could affect human health many sampling periods. Many countries are trying or have established their national ambient quality standards, following WHO Air Quality Guidelines. Unfortunately, Turkey does not official standards (IAQ).
