Characteristics of Prospective Mathematics Teachers’ Problem Solving in Metacognitive Awareness: Absolute Value Problems of Calculus Courses

Metacognitive awareness influences problem-solving thinking. Understanding metacognitive is essential in the teaching and learning process. The purpose of this research to determine amount characteristics each level problem solving. extent 125 prospective mathematics teacher students from four different public private universities was revealed exploratory qualitative study. To acquire data, absolute value assignments, think-aloud transcripts, semi-structured interviews were employed. Sources methods are triangulated assure data validity. analyzed using fixed comparison analysis. results study indicate that there six levels students: tacit use, identity semi-aware aware strategic reflective use. developed can identify all arise solving problems. has been supporting development models, cognitive style characterization tracing students’ process mathematical awareness.
