Pantograph-catenary arc fault is the primary factor threatening stability of power transmission for high-speed railway. The motion characteristics pantograph-catenary under low air pressure and strong airflow significantly different from case atmospheric pressure. In this paper, an experimental platform was built to investigate root position-time column longitudinal drift height-time characteristic curves pressures velocites. Via analysing corresponding results, it can be found that there are root–arc traction mechanisms at stages development. arcing time stagnation longer than pressure, resulting in more serious electrode ablation. velocity height greater with increase velocity. Two typical irregular phenomena—arc jumping reignition observed. To clarify internal mechanism above phenomenon, a magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) model lauched, influence temperature voltage studied, physical process oscillation analysed. research results provide theoretical support protection high-altitude areas.
