Characteristics of High Speed Steel/ductile Cast Iron Composite Roll Manufactured by Electroslag Remelting Cladding

In the present study, high-speed steel (HSS)/ductile cast iron (DCI) composite roll was manufactured by electroslag remelting cladding (ESRC) technology. The compositional variation, grain size, microstructure, hardness, and tensile strength of HSS layer bimetallic interface were investigated systematically. obtained results illustrated that chemical composition (HSS) changed dramatically due to surface melting core mechanical mixing liquids. different solidification rates compositions in regions led great variations carbide content, hardness. addition, a transition zone (about 9.47 mm) generated between DCI elemental migration diffusion bimetals. Carbides types, morphologies, sizes, had direct influences on interfacial properties.
