Abstract. Luthfiyana N, Bija S, Anwar E, Laksmitawati DE, Risalinda GL. 2022. Characteristics and activity of chitosan from mud crab shells on acne bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis Propionibacterium acnes. Biodiversitas 23: 6645-6651. Chitosan is a product chitin deacetylation, which has the potential to act as bacteria. The study aimed determine characteristics bacteria, i.e., aureus FNCC 0047, 0048 acnes ATCC 11827. research used descriptive method for analyzing quality antibacterial using analysis variants at 95% confidence interval with one factor, while addition much 0.25%; 0.5%; 0.75%; 1% three replications. results showed that value deacetylation degree (DD) was 76%. morphology shows irregular, wavy, porous shapes contains several elements: C, O, Ca, Al. concentrations 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75%, an inhibition zone (9.5±0.71 mm, 10±0 11±0 13.5±0.71 mm), (9±0 12.5±0.71 P. (28.5±0.7 28.5±0.7 31±5.56 34.5±6.36 mm). concentration gives effectiveness in inhibiting growth This concludes could be anti-acne.

IgG subclasses specific to Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes in patients with acne vulgaris.

IgG subclasses specific to Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes were determined in sera from patients with mild, moderate or severe acne and from a control group. Titres specific to S. epidermidis were all within the same range and did not differ between groups. The titres of IgG subclasses to specific to P. acnes did vary between groups. IgG1 and IgG3 were significantly highe...

Different pro-inflammatory and immunogenic potentials of Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis: implications for chronic inflammatory acne.

INTRODUCTION Propionibacterium acnes (PA) and Staphyloccocus epidermidis (SE) are two major bacterial strains isolated from acne lesions. Nevertheless, only PA seems to be implicated in the pathogenesis of inflammatory acne vulgaris. Evidence for this, however, remains indirect and the precise role of PA in inflammatory acne is still a matter for conjecture. The aim of this study was to compare...

Antimicrobial effects of tea-tree oil and its major components on Staphylococcus aureus, Staph. epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes.

Major components of two tea-tree oil samples were identified using thin layer and gas-liquid chromatography (TLC and GLC). Using a TLC-bioautographic technique, the tea-tree oils, terpinen-4-ol, alpha-terpineol and alpha-pinene were found to be active against Staphylococcus aureus, Staph. epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes whereas cineole was inactive against these organisms. The MIC value...
