Characterisation of vortex shedding on a hydrofoil using PIV measurements

نویسندگان

چکیده

An experimental study of vortex shedding on a hydrofoil Eppler 817 was conducted using two-dimensional two components Particle Image Velocimetry. This foil section’s characteristics are adapted for naval applications but sparsely documented. The characterization the flow modes realized based statistical data such as mean velocity field and standard deviation vertical velocities. were acquired at very low Reynolds number which not often covered four angles attack ranging from 2◦ to 30◦. A map different characteristic made this space parameters used identify configurations exhibiting particular dynamics.

Design of Hydrofoil Assisted Catamarans using a Non-Linear Vortex Lattice Method

Extensive experimental investigations of hydrofoil-assisted catamarans have identified the main hydrodynamic parameters affecting the performance of these vessels. Design principles of existing vessels are discussed in the light of these hydrodynamic findings. The experience gained from experimental testing has provided the basis for the development of a non-linear vortex lattice method for des...

Numerical Study on Improvement of Hydrofoil Performance using Vortex Generators (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper the effects of rigid triangular passive vortex generators on a  hydrofoil were investigated numerically.  In the first step using the Finite Volume Method the bare hydrofoil  were modeled and the results of lift and drag coefficients were validated using experimental data. In the next step the hydrofoil armed with vortex generators was modeled and its effect on the hydrofoil perfo...

Thermal Field Around a Circular Cylinder with Periodic Vortex Shedding

A numerical study is carried out to investigate the laminar forced convection heat transfer from a circular cylinder. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible, the Reynolds number ranged from 0.1 to 1000, and the Prandtl number was equal to 0.7. The range of study includes heat transfer in creeping flow (Re40). The equations were discretized by a control-volume-based finite difference techniqu...

Scalar mixing and strain dynamics methodologies for PIV/LIF measurements of vortex ring flows Scalar mixing and strain dynamics methodologies for PIV/LIF measurements of vortex ring flows

Fluid mixing operations are central to possibly all chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries, either being related to biphasic blending in polymerisation processes, cell suspension for biopharmaceuticals production and fractionation of complex oil mixtures. This work aims at providing a fundamental understanding of the mixing and stretching dynamics occurring in a reactor in the p...

A Numerical Investigation on Aerodynamic Coefficients of Solar Troughs Considering Terrain Effects and Vortex Shedding

Recently, increase in the cost of fossil fuels and taking into consideration the environmental effects of exploiting them, caused many researchers and governments to find some ways to make use of renewable energies more cost-effectively. Solar energy is a category of renewable energies which could be harvested via several technologies. One of the most practical methods is using parabolic trough...
